Dr Gillian Deakin started  her medical studies 40 years ago at the University of Sydney and continues to enjoy learning. After extensive travelling Gillian undertook three years of postgraduate research with the Baker Medical Research Institute, including a year at Davis Station, Antarctica, which led to her Doctorate of Medicine. The Thesis was titled “Cardiovascular Risk Factors in the Antarctic”. She then went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Public Health at the University of Sydney, this time with her newborn son.

After having a daughter and completing the Fellowship for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the family travelled to work in the Republic of Kiribati, a tropical paradise with extremely poor health standards.

Since her return to Sydney she has worked mainly as a general practitioner; joining Dr Rish in this practice in 1992 . Dr Deakin also undertook training in nutrition, environmental medicine and acupuncture. She is a regular yoga practitioner as well as meditator, both of which have a profound impact on her health.

She has written a book, 101 THINGS YOUR GP WOULD TELL YOU IF ONLY THERE WAS TIME, which is available at the practice. She writes for several magazines and is an Examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
